Today's Face Lift: Don't
Follow The Stars
By David A. Newman, M.D.
Everyone’s talking about the
“cat woman”, a lady who had
a face lift and now appears
as part human and part feline.
How about those tabloid pictures
of Joan Rivers, where her
eyes are pulled up into an
angle so she also looks cat-like?
Those stories certainly sell
a lot of news papers!
But how about the tens
of thousands of women
and men every year in America
who have facial plastic surgery,
have a great experience, look
normal and natural, and return
to their daily activities
in one or two weeks. They
aren’t chronicled in the Daily
Enquirer. And why not? Because
it’s boring! No
one wants to read about happy
people who have successful
surgery and move on in their
life, so it’s not in the news
because it doesn’t sell news
papers. Maybe that’s why
many Americans think face
lifts create an unnatural
appearance.
So why do movie stars and
other celebrities, who have
oodles of money and could
afford to go to any plastic
surgeon end up with bizarre
and unnatural results? It’s
anyone’s guess but the rich
and famous obviously have
as much difficulty picking
a professional as we do.
Perhaps it’s because we like
our entertainers a little
off balance or the profession
seems to attract manic depressives
who then go on to choose some
crazy doctor for their surgery.
It is possible that they want
attention and need to do something
different from the rest of
the world. Maybe we will
never understand the reason.
But it is the rule rather
than the exception that face
lifts can make a person look
and feel younger, have a significant
impact on a patient’s life,
help them to excel at work
by becoming more competitive
in a younger work environment,
and restore a sense of dignity
which has been assaulted by
the aging process.
Patients often ask their plastic
surgeon, “how much younger
will I look after my face
lift?” Though patients almost
always look younger after
a face lift, when one is thinking
about having the
procedure, it’s probably better
just to think about the specific
changes that will occur and
the degree to which they will
improve. Modern day face
lift techniques generally
make improvements in three
areas: the cheek, the jowl
area, and the neck. Let’s
expand on these three key
areas. Read

"I researched
several surgeons before selection
Dr. Newman, I had many questions
and concerns leading up to
my surgery and Dr. Newman
and his staff always took
the time to answer every questions
truthfully. It was very personal
and intimate experience and
Dr. Newman and staff always
made me feel like a friend
as opposed to a patient. Most
importantly I could not be
more pleased with my new look….I
has breast enlargement."
